4th anniversary already

On Friday January 5th we celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary. Can you believe the time has gone by so quickly?!
We dropped Fiona off at Auntie Jolene's, then headed out for dinner, just the two of us.

Following our custom of trying new ethnic foods, we visited a Xinjiang BBQ place

Xinjiang is the far western province of China, next to Kazakhstan and some of those other central Asian countries. As this mural shows, the local people in Xinjiang are not Chinese, but Uyghur
Xinjiang appetizer: some shredded semi-raw potato thingy And then some sliced onion with herbs and seasoning
Let the grilling begin!
Lamb is a big deal on the menu hereNeat idea -- mini tomatoes wrapped in bacon
There was even some imported Xinjiang beer available to wash down the BBQ. Xinjiang means "new frontier" in the Chinese language
And a trip down memory lane... to one of Gareth and Vivian's first ever dates together. This photo was taken in Feburary 2000. Nearly 7 years ago. What a grand journey it has been :-)

A family bike ride to Costco

New Year's Day here in Taipei was a breezy +22C, with clear blue skies. Great day for a bike ride! We called Vivian's sister Jolene and asked her family to join us on the river trails Outside the front door of our apartment. Fiona's strapped into her trailer, we're ready to roll!
Wei Wei joined us for the ride... ...and where there is Wei Wei, you know Sunshine must be nearby too
Cruising the open river trailsMaking a pit-stop
The view from above. We rode up the ramps to the roof of the local water treatment plant, which happens to be the way to CostcoLunchtime! Pizza and hot dogs and caesar salad all roundBack on the rooftop park, after lunch. Looking back towards Dazhi, our neighborhood. In the foreground are some buildings in the Neihu Technology Park, and way in the back are the peaks of Yangming Mountain Daddy is tired, wants a nap. Fiona's out of her trailer and ready for some antics
Daddy wakes up for a father-daughter photo

Fiona rambles on the lawn. She tripped often, and was then fascinated by the blades of grass stuck to her fingers

Ringing in the new year

To usher in the new year, we went to Chris Jordan's office on Heping East Road. He's on the 11th floor, and his building enjoys a good vantage point of the Taipei 101 buildingHere's what we saw out the windowNighttime traffic below. The streets were buzzing with excitement that night
Wei Wei and Sunshine came along to see the fireworks. They met a little doggy friend that night The countdown crowd. Happy New Year!

I knew someone was going to do a much better job of recording the fireworks show than I would, so I've taken the liberty of pinching their video from YouTube.
